Leaders School is one of the most powerful staff development experiences for YMCA professionals and volunteers our region has to offer. Not just for youth development, staff/volunteers from of all areas of YMCA work can benefit from the experience.
There is an application and acceptance process to be on Leaders School staff and all positions are volunteer roles. There is ZERO cost to being on Leaders School staff other than your time, expertise and passion. All training, housing and meals are provided.

Staff Development at Leaders School
Skill Development including hard and soft leadership skills, facilitation, listening/coaching, and functional expertise in various program areas i.e. Aquatics, sports, fitness, arts, and others.
YMCA Competencies Developed include Values, Collaboration, Communication, Developing Self & Others, Inclusion, Relationships, Program/Project Management and Emotional Maturity.
Leadership Opportunities to further develop their leadership skills working in teams, mentoring and positions on the school’s management team.
Career Development is an intentional part of our program. We have a dedicated staff development expert to provide competency growth, coaching and career guidance.
What Staff Do at Leaders School
Staff create and deliver cutting edge programs to teens in one of our three core program areas; Recreation & Child Development (i.e. YMCA core programs and services), Creative Expression, Leadership Advocacy & Service. Staff also create additional activities outside their departments and facilitate small group values sessions (leadership & character development activities) with teens. Most importantly staff are expected to be strong role models and develop positive relationships with teen participants and other staff to maximize impact.
Being on Leaders School is a commitment that requires a weekend in May and late July for training as well as the school program itself in late July / early August.
